Taking up residence in Antura A on Wade Road, Basingstoke, Bakedin benefits from one of the most prominent units on Kingsland Business Park.

The Bakedin story began back in May 2013. Joe and his good friend Anna had been lift sharing to work for a few months, and on a journey on the M3 the conversation moved onto the subject of baking. They both loved to cook and had the idea of a time saving baking kit that still gave the full baking from scratch experience but with a little less hassle – and so the Bakedin baking kit was born. Joined by their friend Elaina, a plan was hatched to test their idea. A school fete, artisan market and high street food festival later and it was clear the public loved the idea. Not long after, they picked up their first stockist and launched an additional product range – mug baking mixes.

The business grew steadily, but working a demanding day job and spending evenings and weekends working on the business meant that a crossroads was soon reached. After raising a round of seed investment, Joe quit his day job to manage the business full time, hired his first employees and the rest is history.

After an introduction to Michel Roux OBE, they are now fortunate to have their recipes exclusively approved by one of the world’s finest pastry chefs. Today Bakedin is sold in thousands of shops and online retailers in the UK, Europe and North America including Tesco, Lakeland, Ocado, Hobbycraft, QVC and Moonpig.

Their Baking Club subscription service was named in the Independents top 15 food subscriptions two years running, alongside brands such as Graze, HelloFresh and Hotel Chocolat.

Looking to expand both production and warehouse capacity, Bakedin have taken a lease on unit A Antura at LGIM’s Kingsland Business Park in Basingstoke.

Bakedin is a manufacturer and distributor of home baking and cake kits which are available on line or through major retailers. Joe Munns, founder and MD of BakedIn took the decision to move their head office and warehousing operation to Antura in March and by May had completed the lease to occupy the unit for the next 8 years. A Antura is a newly refurbished warehouse of 14,016 sq ft with a high office content.

“It was time to increase production of the kits to meet rising demand which meant moving the storage and distribution away from our first base, Lennox Industrial Mall and take on a full height warehouse” says Munns. “Antura was slightly larger than we planned but the extra space has allowed us to create a purpose-built kitchen studio and despatch area with sales and marketing offices above in this versatile building,” continued Munns.

“The letting has given us confidence to press ahead with the construction of Horizon 5, a 37,500 sq ft warehouse/production unit in place of the former go- karting centre which will be ready in February 2021.”

Josh Quinton-Smith, senior Asset Manager of owners Legal & General Investment Management says “We’re delighted to welcome Bakedin as a pioneering food producer to Kingsland Business Park.” The Park is home to many other successful and diverse companies from prosthetics to global safety science leader. “Since we bought Kingsland in 2018 we have strived to raise the profile by attracting dynamic companies and position Kingsland as the pre-eminent business park for Basingstoke” reports Quinton-Smith.

LGIM were represented by London Clancy, Hollis Hockley and Jones Lang LaSalle for the letting.
